Paris, France, August 6, 2024 – In a historic achievement for Samoa and the broader Pacific Islander community, Alexander Melei Rose has become the first Pacific Islander in 68 years to qualify for an Olympic final in athletics.

A Long-Awaited Triumph For Alexander, this moment has been a career goal for many years. After narrowly missing out in previous attempts, his persistence paid off in a dramatic and tense qualifying round. Overwhelmed with joy, Rose expressed his emotions, stating, “This has been a career goal for so many years.. third time's the charm 😂. Tense qualifying and so incredibly happy to make it through!! Job isn't finished.”

A Historic Final The final event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7th, at 8:25 PM Paris time, 7:25 AM Samoa time, and 2:25 PM EST. As Alexander prepares for this pivotal moment, the anticipation and excitement are palpable not only in Paris but also back home in Samoa and among Pacific Islander communities worldwide.
