Community Raises Nearly $59,000 for Families of Three Samoan Men Killed in South Auckland Car Crash

Li'amanaia Lorenzo Kaisara, a community leader in South Auckland, set up a Givealittle fundraising page to support the families of three Samoan men who tragically died in a car crash near Bombay, South Auckland, last week. The crash involved a truck that crossed into the northbound lane after a tire blowout and collided with a van carrying the three men, who were part of the Recognised Seasonal Employment (RSE) Scheme and were on their way to Auckland ahead of a flight back to Samoa.

The three victims were identified as Fa'aofo Uili Fa'aofo, 45, and his nephews, Leauga Jerry Leauga, 37, and Ta'avao Kelemete, 32. The crash resulted in several injuries, including one of their relatives who is in critical condition in the hospital. Kaisara mentioned that he felt compelled to act upon hearing the news and sought the approval of the deceased's families to set up the fundraising page. The funds raised, totaling $58,790 from over 1,000 donors, will be divided among the three families to help cover funeral expenses and provide support during this difficult time
