The Fijian Drua successfully defended their lead against a late surge from Moana Pasifika, securing a 24-17 victory in Lautoka. Drua dominated from the start of the game, leading 17-0 at halftime with tries from Taniela Rakuro and Selestino Ravutaumada. Henry Taefu opened up the second half and managed to put Moana on the board with a score of 5-17. However, Taniela Rakuro hit back with another try, giving Drua an impressive lead of 24-5. Moana Pasifika has made significant progress in their journey towards 2024. They have achieved several milestones and managed to secure three wins, which is a remarkable feat compared to previous years. Additionally, they have also scored higher points this early in the competition. In an interview with Moana Pasifika Head Coach, Faʻalogo Tana Umaga in the beginning of the season, he said he and the team are working towards being in at least the top eight before the end of the competition.
Moana is still searching for a permanent home ground as its games have been played in various locations, resulting in scattered fan bases. When asked about what he thought about the Fiji Drua crowd during the post-match press conference in Churchill Park, Lautoka, Faʻalogo said that they were envious. He also mentioned that it's been tough to find a home ground where they can have consistent support. Though they have a few loyal supporters, they want to repay their faith and support. Faʻalogo also added that the weekend was a celebration of Pasifika achievements, having the three main rugby Pacific island nations playing together, despite the obstacles stacked against them.
Moana will be heading to the Kingdom of Tonga to play against the Otago Highlanders who are currently placed at 8th spot now with them sitting at 9th, Fiji Drua who is currently placed 7th will be facing the ACT Brumbies who are 3rd in place, Canberra Australia.
