Faleomavaega Vicient Fepuleai, the CEO of the Samoan Rugby Union, has reaffirmed the decision to release Brian Lima from his contract, despite the abrupt manner in which the news was publicised. In an interview with an Australian Samoan broadcaster, CTV Hardtalk, Fepuleai clarified that the decision was made without any malice, emphasising his deep respect for Lima’s contributions. “There was no malice in the decision to let go of Brian. I have the utmost respect for Brian Lima; his service to the jersey, the union, and the country is immense,” Fepuleai said.
The contract, originally set to expire in November, was terminated early due to financial constraints and the absence of international sevens matches until late 2025. Fepuleai explained that the union could not afford to keep personnel without ongoing events. He also expressed surprise that Lima went directly to the media before a formal announcement could be made by the union.
When questioned about whether he would investigate Lima's claims of sabotage by others within the union, Fepuleai responded that he does not plan to pursue the matter. “Given Brian’s sacrifice for this country, I don’t want to do that,” he stated, opting to avoid further conflict.
This situation highlights the financial and administrative challenges facing the Samoan Rugby Union, as well as the personal and professional tensions that can arise in high-profile sports organisations.
